Benjamin Shepherd

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, I am a 36-year-old dedicated public servant with a diverse background spanning hands-on work, academic achievement, and a steadfast commitment to community well-being. Having lived and worked in over a dozen Canadian cities across nearly every province, I bring a broad and inclusive perspective on what it truly takes for communities to flourish.

I hold a Psychology Arts Degree from Camosun College and a Winery & Viticulture Diploma from Niagara Teaching Winery, complemented by studies in Permaculture Design and Sustainable Building. My certifications, range from Wood Energy Technical Training to Wine & Spirit Education Trust credentials, reflecting my dedication to both practical skills development and academic excellence.

With 20 years of customer service experience, I have developed strong abilities in listening, communication, pragmatism, and advocacy. My work in winemaking and viticulture—both in Canada and abroad—has instilled in me the values of hard work, innovation, and environmental stewardship. Additionally, over a decade in construction, including wood stove installation, siding, and roofing, has taught me the importance of precision, and seeing projects through to completion.

I’ve held management positions including overseeing operations at Sheep River Self-Storage in Okotoks and leading marketing initiatives for a local service company—a demonstration of my ability managing diverse teams and driving business growth. Alongside experience in warehouse management, catering, delivery, hospitality, and sales, I am recognized for addressing challenges directly, resolving issues efficiently, and providing peace of mind to those I serve.

My volunteer work is a vital part of my life, supporting Christian charities and strengthening the social fabric of our community. Guided by my faith, I am motivated by a strong moral foundation and a genuine heart for service. I have ample experience in federal politics and actively participated in municipal politics during the 2021 Calgary municipal election

I am running for Okotoks Town Council on a platform centred on:

Direct Democracy: Empowering residents with a meaningful voice in local decision-making.

Less Taxes: Addressing our tax burden by cutting unnecessary government spending and waste.

Better Recreation: Investing in facilities that nurture all Okotokians.

I believe that through greater democracy, transparency, and ensuring every voice is heard, our lovely town can become a place where families prosper, businesses thrive, and every resident feels at home.

Anchored by my faith and experience, I am committed to serving you and upholding democratic values. With your support and collaboration, I will work tirelessly to build a hopeful and secure future for all Okotoks residents.
